Aider works entirely in the terminal and entirely through git: every change it makes becomes a commit, so undoing its work is a revert rather than an archaeology exercise. It builds a map of the repository to decide which files matter for a request, which keeps token use down on large projects. It is free software; you pay only for whichever model API you point it at.
